Moe Staiano's newest composition, "Music for Eight Guitars (A Parting Gift)" is set to have its world premiere at the San Francisco International Arts Festival on May 2. The piece is an exploration of rhythmic texture and timbre composed for eight electric guitars, bass, drums and percussion.
This piece is the newest larger-ensemble composition by Staiano, whose previous works include "Away Towards the Light" and the "Surplus 1980 Collectiv Ensembl," as well as his previous large-ensemble aleatoric work as Moe!kestra.
The performance will feature musical talent from across the Bay Area's creative music community. The ensemble consists of guitarists Lorenzo Arreguin, David James, Alee Karim, Jay Korber, Josh Pollock, Robin Walsh, Drew Wheeler, and Bill Wolter; bassist Jason Hoopes; drummer Scott Siler; and percussionist Jordan Glenn. The piece will be conducted by Staiano.

"Music for Eight Guitars (A Parting Gift)" is part of the (San Francisco International Arts Festival (sfiaf.org). SFIAF celebrates the arts by bringing together a global community of artists and audiences. We present innovative projects that focus on increasing awareness and understanding within and across cultures. Our core values are based on principles of cultural and economic equity and coordinating the shared resources of multiple organizations in order to reach mutually beneficial goals.
The festival begins Friday, April 25 and runs through Sunday, May 11 at various venues across San Francisco. The performance of "Music for Eight Guitars (A Parting Gift)" takes place on Friday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m., at Monkeybrains, 933 Treat Ave, San Francisco, CA.
