Moe Staiano's "Away Towards the Light," is an exploration of tonal interplay and contrasting rhythms for nine electric guitars, bass and drums composed in three movements, and is his first composition for multiple electric guitars.

The piece has been performed twice before, it debuted June 25, 2016 and was performed earlier this year on January 28, 2017 at The Lab in San Francisco. This is the latest large-group composition by Staiano, who has composed for larger groups as well as duos.

Staiano draws from his decades in the experimental music community for musicians, and this performance will feature guitar talent from across the Bay Area's musical spectrum. The piece will be co-conducted, with Staiano directing the overall makeup to the piece with his "semi-conductor," Suki O'Kane in charge of cueing the ensemble, as Staiano himself will be performing with the ensemble on drum set.

"Away Towards the Light" will be performed as part of the (San Francisco International Arts Festival (sfiaf.org), which is being held at Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture in San Francisco. The festival will be held May 25-June 4, and the performance of "Away Towards The Light" takes place on Sunday, May 28 at 7 p.m., in gallery 308. Tickets are $20, but early bird advance tickets are available for $12.50 until March 31.
